Alabama vehicle records are processed by the Alabama Department of Revenue Motor Vehicle Division in accordance with the Driver’s Privacy Protection Act. Records may include registration records, title records, title history, and abandoned vehicle reports.

Submit a request through the AL MyDMV Vehicle Records Portal: https://mydmv.revenue.alabama.gov/TAP/_/. Be prepared to provide your contact information, reason for the request, VIN or license plate number, record type, proof of authorization, and valid ID.

If approved, the agency will email a Reference ID so you can select and purchase the available record. The fee is $10 per record. For questions, call 334-242-9000, Option 2.

Eligible requesters under the Driver’s Privacy Protection Act and Alaska statutes may request an Alaska Motor Vehicle Record by completing Request for Vehicle Record Form 851. Sign and date the form, then submit it with payment and any required documents.

Current Arizona residents may request their own Title and Registration Motor Vehicle Record online through AZ MVD Now: https://azmvdnow.gov/home. Requests may also be submitted by mail using Form 46-4416.

Complete the form with requester information, vehicle details, record type, and permissible use. Mail-in and in-office vehicle record fees generally range from $3.00 to $5.00, depending on the record requested. If you are a prospective buyer, ask the Arizona title owner to provide the MVR before purchase.

Vehicles not titled or registered in Arizona within the last seven years may not be eligible for vehicle record searches.

Arkansas restricts vehicle record access in accordance with the Driver’s Privacy Protection Act. If you need information from the time you owned the vehicle, submit a written request with a copy of your driver’s license, vehicle details such as the VIN or plate number, and the reason for the request.

The fee is $1.00 for owner or lienholder information and $1.00 for each document copy.

California allows you to request your own vehicle or vessel registration record online through the California DMV. For another person’s vehicle, vessel, or driver record, complete the Request for Record Information Form INF 70.

For vehicle or vessel records, provide the California plate number, CF number, or VIN/HIN, select the record type, state the permissible use, sign the certification, and mail both parts of the form with the required fee. Automated records are $5 per record; photocopies of hardcopy or microfilm documents are $20 per copy.

Colorado offers a Vehicle Record Search for current owner and lienholder information and a Title History Search for title documents and ownership history. Requests may be submitted online through the Colorado DMV vehicle records page: https://dmv.colorado.gov/vehicle-record-searches.

To request a record, you must be the person in interest, have authorization, or meet an approved permissible use under Colorado law and the Driver’s Privacy Protection Act. Mail, in-person, national database, and certain title history requests use Form DR 2489A. All pages of the form must be completed and returned.

Record searches and title histories cost $2.20 each. Certification is $0.55 per record or history. No refunds are granted.

Connecticut title searches verify the current titled owner of record. To request a title search, complete the Title Copy Records Request Form J-23T. For odometer readings or ownership history, note the request in Section 3 of the form.

Include the vehicle make, year, identification number, registration number or name, identification, and a check or money order for $20 payable to DMV. Certification is an additional $20.

Fees are due at the time of request and must be payable to the Division of Motorist Services. Allow about 2 weeks for processing. Certified records require an additional $3.00 per record.

Personal information is restricted under Florida law and the Driver’s Privacy Protection Act. If requesting personal information, provide the required exemption number or written consent.

Complete the form with requester information, vehicle details, requested record type, permissible use, certification, and a photocopy of an unexpired driver’s license or government-issued ID. Include any required supporting documents and fees.

Fees include $1.00 for tag/title/lien or salvage information printouts, $5.00 for title history or letter of verification, and $14.00 for certifications. Government agencies, law enforcement, and legal aid organizations may be exempt for official business requests.

Eligible requesters under §286-172, Hawaii Revised Statutes, and §19-121, Hawaii Administrative Rules, may request a Hawaii Motor Vehicle Record through the UIPA request process. The request must include a valid VIN or State of Hawaii license plate number and an affidavit stating the reason for obtaining the information.

Common fees are $7.00 for title or registration records and $14.00 for records with supporting documents or certification. No refunds are issued whether or not a record is found.

Iowa vehicle records may be researched by VIN, name, title number, or license plate number. To request a record, complete the Privacy Act Agreement for Request of Motor Vehicle Records.

Print and sign the completed form, include a copy of your driver’s license or non-driver ID, and include written consent if requesting another person’s record. The fee is $5 per record request, even if no record is found.

Kansas vehicle records may be requested online by owner, VIN, or plate number through the Kansas vehicle records request portal: https://pay.payitgov.com/ikan-request-to-access-vehicle-records. Requesters must select an eligibility reason under the Driver’s Privacy Protection Act.

Requests may also be submitted by mail using the Request for Access to Vehicle Records form. Available vehicle record fees include $15 for a Vehicle Registration Record, $30 for a Vehicle Title History, and $40 for a Certified Title History.

Individual and non-account holder requests may be submitted online through the Michigan Secretary of State website: http://www.michigan.gov/sos. Account holders should log in through Record Sales. The fee is $11 per searched record or $12 for a certified record. Michigan government agencies with an approved account are not charged.

To request a Minnesota motor vehicle record, complete the Record Request Form PS2502. If requesting someone else’s record, the form must show an acceptable reason for access or include written authorization from the record subject.

Minnesota DVS reviews each request before releasing information. Record copy fees are $9.00 if requested by the subject of the data and $9.50 if requested by someone else. Certified copies are $10.00 or $10.50. Vehicle title history costs $1.00 per printed page in addition to the record fee.

Mississippi motor vehicle record information is released in accordance with the Driver’s Privacy Protection Act. To request records, complete the Motor Vehicle Records Disclosure Application and Request for Motor Vehicle Records Information.

Requests must be submitted in writing and include as much detail as possible, such as name, address, tag number, VIN, title number, county, and whether lienholder information is needed. Requests may be submitted by mail or fax.

Fees include $3.00 for registration information, $5.00 for title or lienholder information, and $8.00 for certified registration information, title history, title verification letters, or certified letters of no title.

Nevada vehicle record requests must be submitted through official DMV channels with proper identification, authorization, and any required notarization. Nevada does not release personal information by phone or email unless permitted by law.

Authorized parties may request vehicle records by completing the appropriate application packet listed on the Nevada DMV records page: https://dmv.nv.gov/records.htm. Vehicle records involving abandoned or crash-involved vehicles are generally limited to authorized third parties such as insurance companies, tow yards, and attorneys.

New York vehicle registration and title record abstracts are summaries of DMV records, not copies of the actual registration or title documents. To request one, use the Records Request Navigator or submit Form MV-15, Request for DMV Records by mail.

For a registration abstract, provide the plate number or VIN. For a title abstract, provide the VIN. Include a photocopy of your driver license or other government-issued photo ID and the required fee. Requests for another person’s record must qualify under the Driver’s Privacy Protection Act.

A separate form is required for each vehicle, and at least one identifier must be provided, such as VIN, license plate, registration decal, or title number.

The form must be notarized and include the reason for the request, requester information, payment, and any required eligibility selection. Fees vary by record type, plus a $1.55 return mail fee. Vehicle information may not be released by phone.

Oregon DMV vehicle records may be requested by mail or, in limited cases, at a DMV field office. Personal information in DMV records is protected under Oregon law, so requesters must qualify to receive it or request a sanitized record.

Fees include $1.00 for a vehicle record computer printout, $1.50 for a certified printout, $5.00 for photocopies of a current motor vehicle record, and $15.00 for a complete vehicle history. Government agencies are not charged.

To request Texas motor vehicle title, registration, or history information, complete Form VTR-275, Request for Texas Motor Vehicle Information. Submit the signed form with a copy of your government-issued photo ID, any required authorization or supporting documents, and payment.

Fees include $5.75 for title history, $6.75 for certified title history, $2.30 for title and registration verification, and $3.30 for certified title and registration verification. Fees are non-refundable. Do not mail cash.

If you are the owner of record on the title, contact the County Clerk in the county where the title was issued for duplicate title assistance. If you are the registered owner of record, contact the County Treasurer in the county where the license plate and registration were issued.

For a Wyoming title search, complete the MV-220 Privacy Disclosure Agreement. You must qualify under the federal privacy disclosure requirements, and each title search is $15.00. A title search request must include at least one identifier, such as the VIN, title number, or legal owner name.

For a license plate registration search, provide the plate number, vehicle type, make, and year.
