Display Requirements: Since 1945, Delaware has required only rear plates on passenger vehicles. Plates from 1942 onward are valid with current stickers. Authorized porcelain enamel reproductions can be obtained from private vendors if they meet state guidelines.

Delaware Plate Design and Format: Automobile and commercial plates measure 12″ x 6″, while motorcycle and other identification plates are 7″ x 4″. Plates are validated with registration decals indicating the expiration date. Typically, plates remain with the vehicle unless personalized or specialty plates are transferred upon request and payment. The serial format is 123456.

Vehicle Registration and Renewal: In Delaware, all motor vehicles  must be titled before registration to operate on highways. Off-highway and all-terrain vehicles must be registered but not titled.
